women's development, child welfare, cottage industry, health care and job training in an impoverished section of South India. |
. Friends of India, Inc. is a non-profit established in 1989 to encourage Help for Self-Help programs in rural Tamil Nadu, South India. We work closely with local organizations in a 40-village area surrounding Tiruvannamalai to provide education for village children, job training (particularly for women), shelter and healthcare for those in need. The work of Friends of India is inspired by the life and example of Dr. Hugo Maier, a German doctor who first came to Tiruvannamalai in the late 1950's. Each of our projects is part of a comprehensive program that leads to lasting change.
